Inspired by this recipe at Allrecipes.com, the “Triple Bypass” has become a Father’s Day tradition at our home. I’ve tweaked this to our family’s liking, but the recipe on it’s own is quite fabulous.
If you are vegetarian or a heart patient, stop reading now. You will be sick.
If you are a Carnivore with a capital “C,” this will unleash the meat-loving animal inside of you!
What is a Triple Bypass?
I’m not talking about heart surgery, here. Although I will warn you that this is not a meal for a heart patient, by any means. In fact, it might be a good idea to make reservations at your local hospital before partaking. This goes on our menu only once a year.
The “Triple Bypass” I am talking about is a hot dog (some sort of sausage is preferred.. we are using chicken Italian sausage hot dogs this time), wrapped in meatloaf (about 1/2″ thick around the hot dog), wrapped in bacon. After placing it on the grill, it is smothered with BBQ sauce. For the non-gluten free folk, it is served on a hoagie roll, with all your typical hot dog fixings. We serve it up with ketchup, mustard, relish and sauerkraut.. and a big green salad on the side.
It’s best to eat this earlier than later, so you have time to go for a walk afterward. Or if you have any hopes of enjoying dessert.
Happy Father’s Day, all you meat loving dads!
