..Hello 2014.
Today was our first day “back,” and what did we accomplish? Well, I had an appointment this morning, but the girls were showered and had finished their devotions before I returned. We completed today’s spelling lists and handwriting. Then we turned on the Wii for some Zumba Kids and Wii Sports. PE done. I’m calling it a day. I have one load of laundry almost done, and last month’s billing finished for my Virtual Assistant work.
I could moan and groan for quite a few paragraphs, but I’ll try to spare you most of it. I’m just part of the ripple effect. A homeschooling family that we shared Science with (our kids went to preschool together) had to close this chapter of homeschooling and their child will be attending public school, beginning today. To be honest, I am feeling sad and lonely for our homeschooling friends. To be very honest, I know that my oldest will be hurt that she isn’t going to public school when, “all of my friends get to go, mom!” To be brutally honest, I am a little jealous.
What are my hopes for 2014? Still working on that. I’m setting goals very randomly. Not really for how much “school work” we should get done, but more about picking myself up by my bootstraps and connecting with the homeschooling families in our area. I think I’m feeling that we’re disconnected and know this is because we are not really that involved. I need to be deliberate in my desire to be connected.
Things I am looking forward to this year? A possible vacation (!!!) and one of our former Home Stay students may be coming to visit. This is a year of changes that I didn’t expect or want, but it may turn out okay after all.
“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.
Attitude, to me, is more important than facts.
It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes,
than what others think or say or do.
It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill.
It will make or break a company… a church… a home.
The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding
the attitude we will embrace for that day.
We cannot change our past… we cannot change the
fact that people will act in a certain way.
We cannot change the inevitable.
The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude…
I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.
And so it is with you…
we are in charge of our attitudes.”
